Formatting books for non-fiction can be much more challenging than formatting books for fiction. And where a tool such as Vellum is easy to use for a standard fiction title it can feel limited for a non-fiction title, especially one that has lots of images or sections. And while Microsoft Word offers the formatting flexibility that is often needed for non-fiction that includes images, it’s less than ideal for generating the proper resolution images needed for a print title.
That’s where Affinity Publisher comes in. It streamlines and simplifies basic book formatting while allowing for the full flexibility needed to format a non-fiction title. With Affinity Publisher you can create a title that contains a hundred-plus images, an index, multiple tables of contents, and more. And this course will walk you through all of that.
In this course you’ll learn how to add tables of contents to your document, how to mark index entries and add an index to the back of a book, how to use a chapter or section name instead of book title for the header in your document, how to merge multiple documents together to create a collection or omnibus, and also how to insert images into the main body of your document and make basic adjustments to those images.
Affinity Publisher for Non-Fiction continues from where Affinity Publisher for Fiction Layouts left off. Before starting this course you should either take Affinity Publisher for Fiction Layouts or should already be familiar with the topics covered in that course, including master pages and text styles.
Also, while all topics in this course are relevant to non-fiction about half of the subjects (tables of contents, merging documents, chapter names as headers) also are relevant to more advanced fiction formatting so it may be worth taking for those who are only formatting fiction titles as well.
